Since my graduation in fashion, I always find myself thinking: when we study a little about the history of fashion, it is easy to understand that clothes are a form of expression of a group, a community, a decade, even a century. Looking at the whole fashion cycle up to here, we can see how quickly we are evolving, changing thoughts, questioning and expressing ourselves through dressing. The ease of interaction in many different ways and with people from all over the world makes it easy to assimilate new thoughts and create your own speech. This speech is often communicated even by those who believe not to be communicating anything, as in the emblematic scene of the film "The devil wears Prada", where the character Andy laughed, during the choice of pieces for an editorial, where the discussion was: which blue belt to choose? Miranda rebatou laughter proving to her that even the clothes she wore unpretentiously were launched by great stylists and chosen by the people of that room, doing all the cycle of fashion from the launch in exclusive brands, until reaching the fast-networksfashion for the whole population.
I built this reasoning because, after entering no.wasTee, I think about the history of the t-shirt in the fashion world, the most dressed item on the planet, which, so accessible, often becomes trivialized, especially within the fashion market. It’s ironic: the t-shirts are flagship of many brands, but at the time of the runway what is presented are exuberant collections of difficult common use. But if the t-shirt is the most used item, why is it so despised? Remember that the most important moments of my life usually had a shirt wrapped, that uniform shirt that was signed by all friends of the school, which next year would not be together. The T-shirt of the trot of the vestibular, which should have been framed with that dirt of clay and eggs that marked a great achievement and the passage of a cycle, but it was not necessary because even after washing the stains remained there, and each time I fix the guardclothes and find a pile of historical t-shirts is as if the moments came back and I could relive in some flashes everything that happened. And how many people have not had their lives marked by t-shirts of your favorite band or your heart team, a t-shirt signed by your idol or an abadia of a historical carnival?
T-shirts are not simple T-shirts, they are memories; they tell stories of people, places, tastes, feelings. And today I come across this square-neck t-shirt, created by my friend Fabi, an item that at first glance causes certain strangeness in those who have never seen a square collar, for simple lack of habit, I believe. But two seconds after understanding that this piece is a symbol, a symbol of protection to the planet, a symbol for those who really care about the future of humanity, I realize that the desire to leave using only this model is not only mine. Everyone is infected by the possibility of contributing to the reduction of carbon footprint, with practically zero waste on the cutting table and all the benefits that a small choice at the time of its purchase can bring to our planet. I believe that with so many unexpected weather events, the looks in various sectors, not only fashion, will change a lot! I also believe that every small gesture, every little act matters at this moment, especially by example. It may be that my generation does not live all the impacts we can sow today for a better future, but I have faith that the generations that are being born can reap these fruits of a common and necessary effort.
Let’s start today? I leave here the invitation to continue writing fashion history, now in a more sustainable way, with no.wasTee. Come with us?
