Startup that participates in the program Paraná Anjo Inovador receives support to develop model of production of sustainable and zero waste of raw material T-shirts. The technique won the 2022 Green Concept Awards from the IKEA Foundation in Germany.
An entrepreneur from a Paraná-based startup is making her mark on the fashion industry with an innovative and sustainable approach. Fabiana Muranaka, 48, designer founder and CEO of no.wasTee (in free translation, t-shirt without waste), created a new method of production of shirts, focusing on the almost total use of raw material.
The company was founded in 2019, when Fabiana, a natural of Registro (SP), but who has been living in Curitiba for 25 years, began tests of ergonomics and wearability using a modeling technique based on straight geometric shapes, different from the system of cuts with collars and sleeves. In this way, it better uses the full potential of fabric rolls.
The most comprehensive solution emerged in graduate school, when it developed processes that changed cutting sequences. The technique won the 2022 Green Concept Awards from the IKEA Foundation of Germany, which highlights sustainable design concepts.
Currently no.wasTee has an e-commerce and a re-reading of the four most popular T-shirt models in the world: t-shirt, polo, regatta and raglan. "A shirt manufactured by the industry generates on average 20% waste of raw material. In the no.wasTee model, the coefficient of utilization rises to around 97%. This impacts not only on a more sustainable model for fashion, but also on the cost-benefit of manufacturing t-shirts", explains the designer.
The company from Paraná wants to help meet one of the biggest challenges in the fashion industry, which is the manufacture of sustainable models. According to a study released by the Global Fashion Agenda, more than 92 million tons of textile waste were generated in recent years, and the projection is an increase of 60% by 2030, exceeding 140 million tons. Donating scraps no longer solves the problem of disposal.

Now, with the recognition of the international award, the entrepreneur wants to make the industrial process a scalable service. This led to the patent application of the methodology so that it could be taken to other fashion branches. Fabiana is developing a zero waste lab and t-shirt design software.
The funding for the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) of the software was obtained through the Paraná Anjo Inovador edict, launched last year, which also finances the implementation of the design lab.
The program of the Secretariat for Innovation, Modernization and Digital Transformation (SEI) invests in startups from Paraná. In the first phase of the project, 71 innovative initiatives were selected to receive up to R$ 250,000 for solution development, totaling more than R$ 17 million in investment. In the first half of 2024, a new phase of the Paraná Innovative Angel will be opened, with an additional R$ 20 million incentive to support up to 80 startups from Parana.
"All this effort demands a diversity of designs capable of meeting the variety of raw materials and personas of the world fashion market. The investment of Paraná Innovative Angel is helping me a lot in this journey," says Muranaka.
